Window Dressing

powerfilledsites

What draws you to a window display? Items on sale? Colour co-ordination? Attractive items on display? The sense that there is something inside for you?

Experts say that all window displays should have a focal point. This is the dominant element of the display, and often the main merchandise on show. Experienced window dressers also employ depth and layering to displays, which is visually appealing and helps to draw the eye.

When we think about employee networks, what attracts people to what you do? Does your 'window display' have a main focal point? How you bring depth to what you do?

Consider the following lessons that we can learn from window display experts:

  1. Create The Right Floor Plan - how is your network structured and how can people engage? What are their habits? How do they respond to your products?

  2. Focus On Accessibility - Do you create a welcoming and usable environment for all? Are you focussing on one group over others in the community?

  3. Create an Experience - What attracts people to your network? What are the first impressions members experience when joining your network? Are your networks meetings and events a comfortable, enjoyable experience?

  4. Cross Merchandising - a great way to highlight new and promote items and can fulfil a need people didn't even know they wanted. How do you work with other networks? How do you collaborate in a meaningful way which gives members information they didn't know they needed?

If membership is waning, take a step back and look at your network [window] objectively or find someone who can give you a constructive perspective. Is the focal point clear? What's on offer? What's in for members?
